User Reviews: It is hard not to fall in love with this facility if you happen to have a stay there. I think half the credit for my recovery goes to the beautiful environment that the facility has to offer which made things a lot easier for me. Their food was really great. You are served with a lot of different and exotic meals and then there always are free snacks at your disposal. I personally was a big fan of the free ice cream and cigarettes. I also had an excellent experience with their staff members. They were very caring and supportive and it always felt like they truly cared about your recovery. There were also a number of indoor and outdoor activities to get involved in. I really enjoyed the paints and art sessions. I have recommended this facility to a couple of friends of mine and will also recommend them to whoever is reading this. Great work!

VCC The Gary Center

341 South Hillcrest Street, La Habra 90631

Center Description: Cognitive behavioral therapy,Substance abuse counseling approach,Trauma-related counseling,12-step facilitation approach,Motivational interviewing,Anger management,Martix Model,Relapse prevention

User Reviews: VCC The Gary Center is truly the best place you could send someone who’s addicted to drugs. My brother went there last year and he’s changed so much in that time. He went from shooting heroin to helping people get off heroin. Went from manipulating my mom out of money or just stealing money from our parents to working hard to get them paid back. He hasn’t paid them back completely but he sends them money from every paycheck he gets and he’s proud of the fact that he’s able to do it. He’s taken so much from my parents that to see him trying so hard to make up for it is amazing. I had stopped talking to him 2 years before he went to VCC The Gary Center. I was just sick of watching him ruin his life and when he stole a bunch of money from our parents I was just done. He started writing me letters when he got out detox at VCC The Gary Center. I was worried the first time I got one of his letters because every rehab he’s gone to before going to VCC The Gary Center all he did was complain about them. He hated being at them or he hated the people or the staff weren’t nice, it was always something and so I was expecting the same thing from him this time. However, I could tell that VCC The Gary Center was different for him. He told me that the detox he went through wasn’t too bad and that the detox staff really helped him get through it fairly comfortably. He loved the staff there and throughout his programs the letters continued to praise the program and the people working there. While he was there he told me that he had decided that he wanted to do the same thing with his life. He wanted to work there and help people get off drugs. That was a shock for me as I didn’t think he’d ever be that intent on helping others. He got to choose the program he did at VCC The Gary Center. He talked with his counselor about it of course the decision of how he was going to help himself get off drugs was ultimately up to him and that made a huge difference for him. He told me that when he decided on the program he was going to do was when he made the decision to really do that program and get sober for good. He started playing the guitar again. He was always playing when we were growing up but he sold his guitar to get heroin and so stopped playing. They have a music room at VCC The Gary Center where he spent most of his free time. By the time my brother finished his program we were talking on the phone again and I was so happy to have my brother back in my life. He is back at VCC The Gary Center working and he’s doing amazing. I don’t worry about him so much anymore and I know that he’s doing something he loves. It’s been such a great year with my brother and just knowing that he’s going to continue to do good is pretty awesome.

User Reviews: I'm a single parent to a recovering addict of opioid addiction. My son's drug of choice was OxyContin and he was on a very dangerous downward spiral. That was until we discovered Paradigm Malibu. I made sure to do my research before choosing a facility for him. Paradigm was by far the best choice and I was blown away after calling to talk with them and gain more information. At first I thought my son was just tired because of lack of sleep, but then I realized something else was going on. I'm still not sure where he was getting his pills, but it doesn't matter at this point. What matters is that Paradigm Malibu did so much for him and he's really turned his life around. One of the big determining factors that made me choose Paradigm Malibu was that they made sure, before we checked in, that my insurance was going to be accepted. Sure enough, it was fully accepted. That made the decision so much easier. All I can say is that Paradigm Malibu is the right choice for any parent looking for a treatment center for their child.

User Reviews: It is hard these days to find a treatment center that truly cares intimately and personally for their clients. It seems a lot of centers just try to get as many people as possible to grow their business. I speak from experience. 10 years in grips of addiction and 3 treatment centers later I was still struggling. That is when I luckily found Veterans Village of San Diego. This made a big difference for me as I began to feel an overwhelming amount of love and compassion from their staff each day. They cared about my life and my issues consistently day in and day out and actually still do to this day even though I graduated a long time ago. Once you come to Veterans Village of San Diego you gain a team of all-stars in helping you beat your addiction for life. I know I can always rely on and depend upon each relationship I built at Veterans Village of San Diego to help me navigate the complexities of living in sobriety and I know I can count on them the rest of my life.

CA Substance Abuse Facts

Californians tend to use certain illicit drugs at higher rates than the nation as a whole. For example:

  • Californians age 12 and older had higher rates of past-year marijuana use and past-year cocaine use than the national average in 2014-2015 (15.25% vs. 13.35% and 2.16% vs. 1.75%, respectively).
  • Past-month illicit drug use among teens has consistently been above national averages since 2010, and it increased between 2012 and 2014.
  • The rate of past-year alcohol use disorders among those 12 and older in California was also slightly higher than the nation as a whole in 2014-2015 (6.6% vs. 6.1%).

Despite the prevalence of substance abuse in California, on average, only 7.2% of those aged 12 and older who needed treatment for alcohol dependence or abuse received it during 2010-2014. During the same period, on average, only 11.7% of those aged 12 and older with illicit drug dependence or abuse received the treatment they needed.

The state has seen its share of drug overdose deaths, like the rest of the country. About 4,500 Californians died from drug overdoses in 2014, a 50% increase from 2002.

In Los Angeles County, nearly 400 deaths involved prescription opioids each year from 2006-2013, and prescription opioids were involved in about 60% of all drug-related deaths during that time period.

Getting Addiction Treatment Help

Many residents and nonresidents seek addiction treatment in California. The state is well-known for the number of rehab centers it offers. No matter what kind of program you’re looking for—be it inpatient/residential or outpatient—you have a good chance of finding it here.

If you are thinking of traveling for treatment, find out whether your insurance will cover treatment out of state. If you’re already in the state, see if there’s a local program that will meet your needs or whether getting help in another part of the state is a better option.

Where Else Can I Find Help?

Many people use insurance to pay for drug and alcohol abuse treatment. However, not having insurance doesn’t necessarily preclude you from getting help.

Other ways to pay for treatment include taking out a loan, borrowing from savings, and seeing whether you qualify for public insurance programs such as Medi-Cal and Medicare. In many cases, you may even be able to work out a payment plan with the center.

You can contact us anytime for questions about treatment programs and payment options.
