Gaudenzia's New Image program is a residential substance abuse treatment for women and their children at the Stenton Center in the city of Philadelphia. It is intended for homeless women with dependent children. New Image will accommodate 18 women and children. The program is clinically designed as a therapeutic community, an established treatment modality with specific components, with residential treatment lasting typically six months. There is also a day care and prevention component for the children in the program. The project is housed in one wing of a large shelter facility, the Stenton Center in the East Mount Airy section of the city. The program is part of a collaborative system of intervention services to homeless families.

The program serves substance-abusing homeless women with up to two dependent children under the age of 10. Chemical dependency may be categorized as either drug or alcohol (or cross-addiction), but should be the primary dysfunctional diagnosis. Pregnant women will be admitted regardless of whether they have a dependent child. Applicants must be physically capable of participating in the therapeutic process and personal and child caretaking. It is not possible to accept candidates with severely limiting physical or mental handicaps, nor is the program suitable for those with a chronic and/or active psychosis. Clients must be able to communicate orally in English. Eligibility is based on an initial interview with program staff. Individuals with a history of violent crime, arson or child abuse are considered on an individual basis. Clients must be detoxified, if necessary, before admission to the program.
